For the last 5 months Cooper has been on a pretty intense training program. I, on the other hand, spent the entire summer working long hours on my beloved 55 Chevy and basically ran about 3 miles in a 10 week period . When I got back from California I knew I had to get on a training program fast in order to prepare my body for these longer runs. There’s no doubt that long twitch muscle fibers develop over time and gaining the necessary aerobic conditioning was going to require a lot of work. The tricky thing with jumping into program one month before a marathon is staying healthy and injury free. I understood recklessly entering a crazy training program would shoot me straight into the PT office, so here’s what I’m been doing in order to prepare for the Newport Marathon on Oct 11th.

- MARATHON 26.2 miles
This plan was put together and modified with different lengths and rest periods that catered to my body. This is by no means a scientific training program for any others to follow. Based on various beginner programs and the training taper prior to the marathon matched with my physical ability this personal plan was created. The results in a couple weeks will determine the success or failure of such a training plan and I look forward to the 26.2 miles next week.
Half way through this training program there was a new motivation added to the mix. On September 12th California was caught off guard by one of the most devastating fires the state has seen. The Valley Fires ripped through many areas of California and among the hardest hit was Middletown. My heart goes out to the family and friends living in such a loving place. Having gone there during breaks and holidays for the last 9 years and spending 2 entire summers fixing my truck , it’s a place I feel at home and a place I have come to love dearly. My truck project was destroyed in the fires, but more importantly many others homes and lives have gone up in smoke. Helping Middletown rebuild itself to its former football loving community is where our efforts are focused. The people, community and the hearts of its residences is what get me through my longer runs and we have since transferred all of our fundraising efforts to help rebuild this special place.
