Short Stop in HK Airport Bring Flashs Back of Past Season

After arriving in Hong Kong in route to the Philippines, I realized how much I missed it there. Hearing the cantonese amoungst all the foreign travelers, on all the broadcasts, on all the escalators and knowing that I have landed on this tiny island I called home for a whole year brings back a lot of memories. Recently, I wrote a long description of my time playing in Hong Kong for the New York Youth Soccer Association. Since, I left the league after my first season there from 2009-2010, I havn’t really reflected on my exprience nor have I taken the time to really document what how it was like for a foreign Chinese-Filipino American to play and live in a new country for the first time.  Having been given that chance to think upon my life as a player and person in Hong Kong, it allowed me to see my time here in a totally new light. My prior feelings of struggle and frustration attached with the Chinese League along with a new Hong Kong culture, transformed into a mere minor discomfort amoungst many great memories of friend, places, and wonderful experiences.

To this whimsical overwhelming feeling of missing Hong Kong, I decided to reminisce over a quiet breakfast at my favorite fast food Chinese place I have became so accustom to while living in Hong Kong. Simple comforts of everyday life do not become meaningful until they are no longer routine. Having Congee and Sticky rice from Cafe de Coral  “大家樂” helped quide me back to a daily routine of the past and helped bring back a flood of memories and experiences I miss a lot. For now, I shall board my flight to the Philippines to continue the journey I have started. Until next time Hong Kong, to where friends and fond memories shall be revisited.

I grew up playing soccer in New York City. My soccer career has always reflected my origins and is deeply routed in the concrete playgrounds of Chinatown. My enthusiasm for soccer development and cultural appreciation has shaped the course of my professional playing career. I created the Spirrs Network so that aspiring and experienced players, parents coaches and fans, can share invaluable soccer information and continue to inspire us all through the beautiful game.
